Compassion (noun): Concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others.

In a world that has a mentality that focuses on one self with little regard to others and their needs, it is easy to find yourself becoming numb to the cares of this world. I have always considered myself a people person! I usually can connect well with others, and I love meeting new people. However, I’ve come to realize that although I have bonded easily with others in the past, I have not always shown love to others.

For the past few days I have been learning more about true love. It is selfless, kind, long-suffering, and does not envy. It puts the needs of others before itself and rejoices in the joy of others. I can best describe it as a father/child relationship in which the father wants the absolute best for their child and is happy to see them grow up and become all they have been destined to become. This is the type of love that I’m working towards having for others. Whether they’re related to me or know me personally, I’ve noticed that when I put the needs of others before my own and show them love (even when I don’t feel like it) it brings me joy. It may not always be immediate joy, but later down the line when I see that person thriving and becoming the best version of themselves and spreading that same love that I gave them to others, it brings me joy!

You may not always understand why God ask you to go above and beyond in loving the seemingly un-loveable person, or why He requires you to place the needs of someone else before your own (even when your issues are larger than theirs.). However, through my past experience in doing just this I have found that all of my issues have been solved through helping others. It’s something about dying to your flesh and helping to be the light in someone else’s life that brings about a change and allows God to move in our lives in miraculous ways. Try it!

Take this next week to focus your efforts on showing love to someone that you don’t know! Befriend that quiet co-worker who’s always by him/herself and show them the love of Christ! You’ll be surprised to find that pure happiness will make its way into your life through your efforts of true love! ūüôā

Hey Lovies!

I am officially 27 years old! Today is my birthday and I am so excited to embark on a new year of endless possibilities and ventures! When I¬†first thought about my birthday and the¬†idea of turning 27 I¬†figured that¬†it was no big deal! ¬†In my mind it was another year that should not be given as¬†much celebration because it wasn’t anything spectacular. Year 16, 21 and 25 were my designated glory years that I decided to go all out on celebrating, but no other year would receive as much recognition…..or so I thought.

For the past week I have been fasting and decided to take some time away from social media, television, and¬†many other things that I give a lot of attention to on a daily basis.¬†During the week, I replaced that time with more God-time. This included reading my bible, prayer, meditation, and¬†listening¬†to worship music. It was a time to deepen my relationship with Christ and understand what He wants for me in this new year of life that I’m preparing to enter. It was challenging at times, because after a long day of work I really wanted to go home, curl up on the couch and watch a movie or an old episode of “Forensic Files” on YouTube (my fav!). However, while pushing past my television cravings I¬†realized¬†that my mindset changed a lot during the week! The areas of my¬†life and ministry that¬†seemed¬†to be difficult to accomplish suddenly became easier to complete. The views I had of certain people and the situations I encountered became different and more compassionate as well!

Overall, I feel as though¬†I see things with a new level of gratitude and appreciation! Nothing is too small or too trivial for a “Thank You Jesus” moment. Whether it’s getting a free meal at work or celebrating my 27th year of life. Every day that I wake up with breath in my lungs and good health is a reason to celebrate!

So today is a¬†ULTRA celebration of happiness, thanksgiving and gratefulness to God for allowing me to see another year.¬†I can’t¬†wait¬†to share another year of style and¬†faith¬†with you all¬†through this platform, so stay tuned because this year will be¬†the¬†BEST YET!! ūüôā

Hey Lovies,

This past weekend has been one of the most amazing and inspiring weekends for me in a LONG TIME!¬†There were so¬†many small and large details that contributed to¬†its overall success that I¬†naturally had to share¬†it¬†with ya’ll to give you the same encouragement that it¬†gave me! ūüôā

It started with a bi-annual¬†three-day retreat that my church (The Rock Churches)¬†puts together every year called “The Encounter.” In summary, it is a retreat in which men and women come together to have a experience with God,¬†address and conquer¬†past issues/pain, and¬†grow a closer relationship with Him.¬†I have been going to¬†this retreat¬†for about¬†four years, however this year was VERY different. The first day we learned about Jesus and the cross, including what each nail that he took meant for our healing¬†both physically and spiritually. The second¬†day, we learned about self-esteem (viewing yourself the way God views you), conquering¬†forgiveness and overcoming spiritual attacks. Both of these days were equally amazing and gave¬†me with so much guidance! However, the third day was what brought it all home and put the icing on the cake! I was able to witness one of my sisters (in Christ), Martina Calcagno, get ordained as a pastor and given leadership over our European church¬†locations! ūüôā She moved to New York for dance and started coming to our church about three years ago.¬†After attending the church for about¬†six months she was determined to¬†start/open¬†a location in her home country of Italy! Not only did she start a church, she opened THREE LOCATIONS in Italy (all three are growing and flourishing daily!) ¬†

Martina is a young woman in her mid-twenties who’s a part of a traveling ballet dance company. She made time in her busy schedule to teach weekly bible studies to her family, and because of the continual growth the bible study became a church service. She eventually returned to her country to lead the service as she continued to start bible studies in other parts of Italy. They all yielded the same results! Her story and journey to becoming an ordained pastor is one that I have been fortunate to witness up-close and I could not be more inspired and motivated!

This weekend was an awesome lesson that no matter how busy your schedule may seem or how many excuses you may use as to why you aren’t walking in your full potential, YOU CAN DO IT! You don‚Äôt need more time, you just need to MAKE the time to do it! There are no acceptable excuses because God is with you and will always guide you into your victory! Our lives and¬†everything that happens within them¬†are not a surprise to God, he knows our capabilities and our weaknesses. If you trust in him he will lead you into a life that you couldn’t have imagined; a life that accomplishes goals, breaks barriers and lifts you to new heights!

Pictured below is Martina Calcagno at the Ordination Ceremony! She is the ray of sunshine sitting down with a huge smile on her face (per usual!)

Hey Lovies!

We are officially half-way through 2017, and ¬†so far¬†I’m feeling pretty good! Recently, I sat down with a small group of women that I’m close with and chatted about how we felt about our year thus far. We had all written a set of goals (and even made¬†vision boards!)¬†filled with things that we planned to accomplish¬†this¬†year. ¬†We decided to revisit those goals to check in on our progress¬†in order to¬†hold each other accountable. As we all went around in a circle sharing our successes and pitfalls during the first half of the year, I noticed a common word used to describe what we felt¬†was our drawback…COMPLACENCY!! God had blessed each of us in different ways during the year, however; we realized that we had in one way or another become complacent in our blessing. ¬†We knew this because God had given each of us various revelations/signs showing that He had more for us and telling us to keep moving forward and higher. ¬†It was as if we had small pieces of a puzzle, but when we came together and shared our stories our pieces formed a unified picture and message.

Complacency is something that many people¬†either¬†do¬†not¬†realize¬†they are dealing with or don’t know¬†how¬†to¬†move forward. It’s easy to get comfortable and relaxed in your current place and/or¬†situation when you know that going¬†to a higher level¬†will¬†require¬†you to become uncomfortable and step out on faith.¬† I will be the first to admit that I have been there many times, but thankfully God did not allow me to stay in the¬†situation too long.¬†He placed me on a path that I had no choice but to go higher. Even when I wanted to turn back and go back to my comfortable place, it was as though my past¬†had suddenly become a¬†barren desert that was no longer appealing to me. He changed my vision so that I could see my complacency the same way He had viewed it all along, dry and barren with no sign of direction.

As quickly as God blesses you and moves you forward, know that to whom much is given much is required. God is always desiring us to go higher and to new levels in Him. In doing so, He gives us the wisdom, strength and perseverance we need to be properly prepared for our next level of blessing and responsibilities.

2017 is your year of VICTORY!! God will only take you as high as you allow him! Be open and willing to change, advance and move in whichever direction He leads you.¬†Time to¬†say¬†sayonara to complacency! ūüôā

On Saturday, May 13th, 2017 I had the pleasure of hosting a Style Party at the Banana Republic- FlatIron store¬†in¬†Manhattan,¬†New York. During the event, I¬†styled¬†six influencers in Banana Republic Spring/Summer 2017¬†looks¬†for a¬†presentation, followed by shopping the store for new looks for their followers, friends and family.¬†The entire process leading up to this day was such a blessing that I¬†naturally had to tell you all about it,¬†plus the lesson I learned from the event! ūüôā

It all started a few months ago when I was invited by Banana Republic to¬†attend a “Pant Event” they were having at their FlatIron Store. Another blogger and I came to the store in our favorite¬†Banana Republic pants (given as a courtesy)¬†to show how we styled¬†our¬†pants and made it our own. After the event, I connected with the assistant store manager and expressed my interest in the store and¬†in attending future events.¬†¬†I¬†also threw out a random idea of possibly putting together an event at the store (which I thought would totally get shut down) only to have her instruct me to send her an email with my ideas. That evening I went home and¬†tried to brainstorm as many ideas as possible to send to her, yet I could only come up with one idea! I started to freak out¬†and thought that my creative juices weren’t¬†flowing! After hours of listening to music, taking a walk around the neighborhood, and researching¬†ideas online (things that I usually¬†do to get my¬†creativity flowing) I finally stopped¬†and started to¬†pray. I had come to the end of my rope¬†and realized that at this point I¬†had no choice but to¬†give it all to God¬†and ask for help. His answer was simple, “I have already given you what you need!”¬†¬†I didn’t need to have a million choices to present because he had already given me the winning choice ahead of time (which indeed¬†was¬†approved by the assistant manager)!

From that point on everything seemed to seamlessly fall into place! From the hair and makeup, to the DJ and photographer, and even the models/influencers (which I had the freedom in choosing). Everything fell within the allotted budget and happened at the perfect timing. It was as if God wanted to assure me that by trusting in him and the one idea that he gave me, everything else would be taken care of. He also wanted to remind me of my purpose, because to be completely honest, I was having a moment where it started to become foggy! I have always had a passion for fashion styling, but recently I was having a dry period and started to question whether I was meant to do it anymore. I began questioning my abilities, felt like I was in a rut, and even started to get anxiety at the thought of styling photo shoots and people.

On the day of the event, I spent the morning with God and told him to completely lead my day. I asked him to help me through my styling anxiety and to show me through this event what I should do next. On the day of the event it was cold, rainy and just overall nasty (which negatively affected the amount of foot traffic at the store and the event), but I’m thankful to those who braved the weather and made the event perfect! I was able to connect with others within my industry and my good friends. I felt some anxiety at first while styling the looks, but all of my doubts, fears and worried subsided when I looked at the beautiful models standing in their styled looks. It reaffirmed to me why I began styling and the feeling of sheer happiness when I see how beautiful and happy others feel and look when they are styled.

Overall, this experience was such a eye opener and faith builder all wrapped up in one! It taught me that with God you always have more than enough and are exactly where you need to be. Even when you have moments of doubt and question his abilities, he will always show you that he is control

Hey lovies!

It’s Mayyy!! The sun is shining, the pools are opening and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom! I love everything about spring time which means I have been bopping around these NYC streets with a smile on my face for the past few days. The only thing that has been playing with my emotions lately has been the temperature of the weather! One day will be a high of 85 degrees and the next the high will be 60 degrees. The current scenery in NYC looks like spring but the temperature makes it feel like it’s fall.

This thought has been reigning in my mind for the past week, until God showed me how this current weather situation can be applied to other areas of my life. On Tuesday night, one of the ministers at my church made a statement that has been food for thought for me! She said that sometimes God can tell us we are in a certain season but the conditions that come with the season say otherwise. The season may feel and even look like your past season, yet God keeps telling you that it is a new season of endless possibilities.  It is in those moments that you must learn to believe in what your (God) calendar is saying. The forecast of your life could lead you to believe that you are in the middle of hurricane season with no end in sight, but if your (God) calendar tells you that you are in the middle of spring with endless blossoms and flowers, BELIEVE IT!!

God cannot operate when doubt is present, but when you can walk with your head held high in the middle of hurricane, wearing a bright floral sundress and a smile, you wont need God to reassure you of your new season, because you will already be smelling the flowers! ūüôā

The first group practiced basketball by shooting free-throw shots at the baseline by continually shooting basketballs at the net over and over. The second group of players sat in a room and practiced basketball by visualizing themselves shooting the free throw shots into the basket over and over in their mind. In the end, when placed next to each other, both groups of men performed at the same skill level (even though one had the physical upper-hand on the other.) Hey Lovies,

Lately I have been rediscovering the power of VISION and how its effects are so much greater than its input. Recently I was chatting with my pastors and they told me a story about a case study that they heard about. In the study there were a group of men that were split into two groups of two. The first group practiced basketball by shooting free-throw shots at the baseline by continually shooting basketballs at the net over and over. The second group of players sat in a room and practiced basketball by visualizing themselves shooting the free throw shots into the basket over and over in their mind. In the end, when placed next to each other, both groups of men performed at the same skill level (even though one had the physical upper-hand on the other.)

After hearing this story, the wheels in my mind started to turn. Later that evening while at home I started to break down the scenario in my mind to see if I could unravel a deeper understanding. I realized that so many times we disqualify ourselves from following through on our vision because we think that we are not skilled enough. We may not have the years of experience, finances, or social connections to get to where we want; and we may think that there is no way that our desires can be accomplished (or that it will take too long to accomplish.) BUT, if you truly think about it, God is the one who places the vision inside of us and His only “requirement for eligibility” is to follow his directions on where He is leading us. He literally spearheads your vision and tells you exactly what to do. You only have to focus on Him and listen to the clearly defined (and at times uncomfortable) instructions and GOOO!! The benefit of doing so brings about a reward of happiness, accomplishment, and blessings that man can not understand (because they are so huge!)

Focus your vision on Christ. Listen to His directions & GO!!! ūüôā

Hey lovies!

One month ago there was a change that occurred in the United Sates. Our season shifted from winter to spring! Although we can hardly feel the physical difference, our calendar tells us that we are midway through pollen season. One day after this changed occurred another season shifted, but its effects were truly felt, because the changed occurred in my life! ūüôā

For the past ten months God has truly been working on my faith and preparing me for something that I have yet to discover. I have been asked to step out on faith on numerous occasions with my only safety net being my full reliance on him, I have felt more uncomfortable than comfortable, and I have lost count of how many times I have asked God “WHY?!”. But through it all he has been crazy faithful and so full of grace and mercy! He has given me more reasons than not to love him more than my issues and miniscule problems. <3 This love was translated into gratefulness on March 21st, 2017 when I woke up to start my first day at a new job that God blessed me with! Everything felt different on that beautiful Tuesday morning and I feel like I have been riding on a cloud ever since. I have witnessed prayers and goals that I have written down start to unfold before my eyes in my personal and spiritual life! NONE of these blessings have come in the form that I expected them to come in, but nonetheless I am so beyond grateful to God for opening them and showing me that his ways are better than mine! ūüôā

I have learned from this season change that trusting in God is not merely for your benefit, but for God’s amazing blessings to be displayed through your life for his glory! So if you’re in your season of “why?!”, know that your season change may not always be displayed in a way that you expect, but it will definitely be felt in a way that is undeniable! ūüôā

Hey Lovies!

Today I have a small obsession to share with you. One that I have had for many years and that some may say is borderline concerning (no shame!). It’s something that has caused me to not clearly concentrate when talking to others during conversations and can automatically attract me to someone almost immediately. Now is my time to clear the air and get it off my chest, and Ive decided to let you know first! I looooovvvvveeeeeee white teeth!!! This obsession literally dates back to summer camp 2001 when I had a huge crush on my camp counselor because he wore a retainer (complete dork I know!), but when he had it removed I was mesmerized by his beautiful white smile!! ūüôā If you’re wondering why I am using todays blog post as a confessional booth, its because I recently received the opportunity to make my teeth white and Ive been crushing on my own smile lately!

A few weeks ago, I teamed up with the amazing folks over at “Smile Brilliant” to test their teeth whitening system! They sent me a super cute kit complete with whitening gel, desensitizing gel, and materials to make my very own custom fitted trays. After making impressions of my teeth and mailing them to the company, I received my trays in the mail two weeks later! Now, to be completely honest this isn’t my first time using a teeth whitening system or having my own trays. I had them made through my dentist about six years ago and wore them sparingly for about three years. I was recently thinking of ordering more gel through my dentist but was presented with this opportunity and decided to try a new product to see how it worked on my teeth. I’ve listed below the pros and cons to trying the “Smile Brilliant” system after using it for two weeks.

PROS!
  • The system contains desensitizing gel that helps those who have sensitive teeth and can‚Äôt handle teeth bleaching. My previous trays did not, which made my teeth super sensitive when using the gel.
  • They trays are fitted perfectly for your teeth and do not have much plastic. I say this because my previous trays were fitted to my teeth AND gums, which caused the gel to touch my gums and caused irritation.
  • You receive plenty of whitening and desensitizing gel! I received 4 syringes of each (8 in total), which technically is supposed to provide 3-4 treatments per syringe, but it lasted longer!

CONS!

  • With any teeth whitening system you risk irritating your gums with the bleaching gel. This happened to me during one of my treatments. My gums started to burn and swell but I removed my trays immediately and I gave the whitening a break for three days. However, I was told by a ‚ÄúSmile Brilliant‚ÄĚ Rep that its best to place Vaseline on your gums when whitening to avoid irritation, and it worked!

Overall, I loved the ‚ÄúSmile Brilliant‚ÄĚ whitening system! I thought I had pearly white teeth until my before and after pictures proved that was a lie! lol Now, I can proudly walk around with my teeth on full blast and crushing on myself! But I have even better news, YOU CAN TOO!!!!! Smile Brilliant and I are giving away a complete T3 sensitive smile creation kit (valued at $139) for FREEEE!! Click the link below to enter!
